It was a pleasure to attend the Wolverhampton Vaisakhi Mela over the weekend.

The weather was great and there were thousands of people there. I want to thank the Council of Sikh Gurdwaras, Wolverhampton’s Hindu Mandirs, the City Council and everyone else who helped organise the event.

I spoke about the work I have done with the Sikh community in the city over the years on human rights issues, recognising the Sikh role in the two world wars and many other issues. I also talked about how honoured I am to have been the host of the Vaisakhi celebrations in Parliament over the past seven years.
