Last week, I met with an organisation called Freedom Fostering.
They are a foster care agency serving across Wolverhampton and the Black Country. They do a fantastic job for the city and I was inspired by the team that I met at the agency. They are hoping to launch a money management project for children in care as they acknowledge that looked after children come into contact with more cash than other children because of the levels of state support in the system. Whilst this can mean more access to material goods, it can also lead to budgeting difficulties as the children don’t understand how to prioritise spending, don’t scrutinise things like APR rates on contracts and can find it difficult when the levels of state support reduce as they get older and are expected to budget for themselves. I am trying to support them where I can to get this project off the ground. I look forward to seeing how this project develops.
