My union – Community – has launched an inquiry into the future of self-employment. The experience of Covid has shown how vulnerable freelancers and self employed people have been. While some were able to get help from the Government’s Self Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS), many got no help at all and have found themselves in desperate economic trouble. Not only that but being self employed has often meant there is no collective voice. It is great to see forward thinking trade unions like Community stepping up to help the self-employed.
