Wolverhampton Interchange

Dear Sir Patrick,

I am writing once again to ask for your Department’s help in moving forward the finance package for the Wolverhampton Interchange Project. You will be aware of the basic principles of the package which are to allow for some prudential borrowing set against the future income stream from the car park. I am told by local partners a similar structure has been used at Stockport station. Obviously, we are running out of road for decisions in this Parliament but I believe there is a meeting in the Department tomorrow, 18th March, to consider this matter. The local authority and the other partners are extremely keen to have a decision approving this project before parliament is dissolved for the election.

There is no doubt that Wolverhampton needs a new railway station. You have passed your own verdict on the current one when you visited. A new station would provide a better service to the travelling public and be 21st century infrastructure for the city, to go alongside the new bus station that we have and other developments. Partners have worked hard to put in place a package that can fund the station. I hope you and the Department will play your part in moving this forward.

Yours sincerely,

Rt Hon Pat McFadden MP
