MP for Wolverhampton South East, Pat McFadden today praised Wolverhampton based construction firm Carillion for their investment in construction training, following a visit to their skills training centre in King’s Cross, London.
Carillion, who are one of the country’s top construction firms, have 19 training centres around the country where young people can take up apprenticeships and learn the skills necessary to pursue a career in the industry.
The MP was invited to visit the centre following a recent visit to Carillion’s Wolverhampton HQ. It has been created because of Carillion’s involvement in the 67 acre redevelopment of the Kings Cross area.
Pat McFadden MP said:
“Everyone knows that construction is going through a tough time at the moment, but I am pleased to see Carillion keeping up their commitment to train young people in construction skills. The Government is keen to promote apprenticeships and Carillion is responsible for about 12% of the construction industry apprenticeships in the country.
“Although construction has slowed, with major projects like the Olympics, the redevelopment of Kings Cross and, closer to home, the Bilston Urban Village, we need young people to have access to construction skills. Carillion are playing their part in that process. I enjoyed the visit and it was great to meet both the instructors and the young people undergoing training. It is good for the city that we have such a major construction firm with their HQ here in Wolverhampton”
