Pat McFadden MP supports Tesco food collection drive in the run up to Christmas. Fighting hunger, tackling food waste.

Recently, Pat McFadden MP pledged his support for Tesco’s Food Collection campaign in the run up to Christmas.

In partnership with FareShare charity, Tescos around the country are organising food collections in store where their contents will then be donated to families in need across the borough.

Pat said, “I see people week in week out at my surgeries who are struggling to make ends meet. Sometimes there is a choice between whether they choose nappies for their baby or themselves eat. I would encourage anyone who can afford it over the Christmas period to support the Tesco food collection and donate a bit of food or toiletries in store in the run up to Christmas”.

Pat donated a basket full of shopping including; nappies and various bits of food.

FareShare is a UK-wide charity that redistributes food that would otherwise go to waste to charities and community groups, including homeless shelters, children’s breakfast clubs, and domestic violence refuges. These organisations turn the food into nutritious meals and provide life-changing support.

In the last year, 6,723 charities and community groups received 13,552 tons of food through FareShare, providing 28.6 million meals for people in need with an estimated value to the charity sector of £22.4 million.

Each charity saves on average £13,000 per year, which can be reinvested into other support services to help get people back on their feet.
