The public are hugely concerned about knife crime.
There’s been appalling murders locally and across the country in recent month with knives used as weapons. As a country, we have to come together to combat that. That means having a properly funded and resourced police force, it means having stiff sentences.
I was joined by Councillor Zee Russell and Usha Patel from Action 4 Bilston. That's a local community group that has campaigned to have this knife bin installed in the car park here. It is all part of the message to young people, both here in Bilston and right across the country, not to carry knives and not to use knives because we are all alarmed at the level of knife crime in the country. Young lives cut short in appalling circumstances. So, I'm glad this bin is here, I don't want young people to carry or use knives and I've signed up to support the Express and Star's campaign for tougher sentences for knife crime. We can't accept the level of knife crime that we've got in the country and we've all got to work together to do something about it.
I have signed the petition for stiffer sentences for knife crime, you can sign the petition too here;
