On Friday, I supported the ‘Walk to School Week’ campaign.

Experts recommend that children are physically active for at least 60 minutes a day to stay fit and maintain a healthy weight, and walking to school is an easy way to achieve some of these active minutes.

Children who travel actively to school will arrive feeling refreshed and ready to learn, and evidence suggests they will do better in class and be happier, healthier and more independent as a result.

I was thrilled to take part in the ‘Walk to School Week’ event with children, teachers and parents from Loxdale Primary School. It is a good initiative, although driving might be necessary sometimes it’s better for children if parents can walk to school. It gets children out in the open air and eases traffic congestion around schools. Even though it rained we had a fantastic response from parents and children. Well done to Loxdale and all the other schools in Wolverhampton who have taken part in the initiative last week.
