WOLVERHAMPTON COUNCIL ELECTION RESULTS LATEST.... - 05:12 pm, Sat 7th May 2011

Congratulations to all Labour candidates who won seats in Wolverhampton South East.  Six out of seven of our candidates were successful with increased majorities in the seats we held going into the election.  I want to thank all Labour’s helpers who came out and helped, whether through leafleting, knocking doors or in any other way.  Elections are a team effort and it’s only through the work of those who are members and supports of our party that we are able to win and to serve the people we represent.

Commiserations to our candidate in Spring Vale Mr GS Bedi who narrowly failed, by just 41 votes, to oust the sitting Lib Dem Councillor Mike Heap.  Nick Clegg’s man in Spring Vales hung on by the skin of his teeth.

Elsewhere in the city Labour made gains from the Tories In Wednesfield South, Oxley and Bushbury North and from the Lib Dems in Park ward.  The overall shape of the council is now 35 Labour, 22 Tory and 3 Lib Dem.

No council can protect the public from the cuts being imposed by the Tory/Lib Dem government but a Labour council will do its best to protect people and to implement the tough spending decisions it has to as fairly as possible.
