Unauthorised Traveller Encampment at Grapes Pool in Bilston

I have had a number of approaches from constituents about the unauthorised traveller encampment at the Grapes Pool, near Moseley Road and Prouds Lane.

I understand that these encampments cause huge anger and frustration for local residents. I have spoken out in Parliament and met with Government Ministers to call for legal changes to make the removal of these encampments easier and faster for local councils and the police.

Since being contacted about this particular encampment my office has been in regular touch with both the local ward councillors and officers at the council seeking the fastest possible removal of the camp.

The council are pursuing court action to have these vehicles and caravans removed as soon as possible. I know this process takes longer than residents would like and I share the frustration about the length of time it takes. If it was within my power I would have them moved off the land today. However the council have to pursue the legal process in order to be able to remove an encampment.

I have this week circulated a written update to some of the houses in the area detailing the action we have taken and stressing my view that I want to see this encampment moved off what is a beautiful and valued piece of local common land.

I will keep residents informed of any developments and continue working with the local authority to have this situation resolved as soon as possible.
