“It is always a pleasure to be warmly welcomed by the Ravidassia community. The Ravidassia community is a very important part of Wolverhampton and I felt privileged to be able to give my greetings to the congregation on this special day.”

The celebration of the great philosopher, saint and social reformer of the fourteenth century. He was born in India at a time which is classed by historians as the darkest period in Indian history, when the fabric of the Indian society was entangled in empty and false ritualistic rigidities. The society was entrenched in a system of castes and untouchability, where all human rights were denied to certain sections of society.

Guru Ravidass Ji’s arrival brought a breath of fresh breeze of fragrance. Guru Ravidass Ji struggled against social injustice, inequality and oppression. Guru Ravidass Ji championed the cause of civil and political liberty in a very dark and dismal days of oppression and tyranny. A strong social and religious reform movement was needed to pull India out of this quagmire.
