In the past 24 hours documents have been released under the 30 year rule which appear to show UK involvement in the operation to storm the Golden temple in Amritsar in 1984. Attached is the text of the letter I have sent today to the Foreign Secretary calling for full disclosure of any UK involvement in this matter.
Rt Hon William Hague MP
Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs

Dear William,
You will be aware of the release of correspondence under the 30 year rule which appears to indicate that UK military advice was given to the Indian military in advance of the storming of the Golden Temple in Amritsar in 1984. This operation resulted in large scale loss of life and was part of a series of events in that year which resulted in the loss of thousands of Sikh lives.
The events of 1984 remain the source of very significant grief and pain in the Sikh community here in the UK and around the world. This is not only because of the huge loss of life which took place but also because of a deeply held belief that the full truth of the events has never been fully and openly established.
There have been many calls for an inquiry in the last 24 hours and I believe it is important that there is full disclosure of any UK involvement in this affair. The Prime Minister has asked the Cabinet Secretary to look into the matter but can you and the Prime Minister guarantee there will be full disclosure and that all relevant papers and correspondence will be released? This is very important to the Sikh community in the UK.
Yours sincerely,
Pat McFadden
