In a new pamphlet published today Andy Tarrant and I examine the most commonly discussed alternatives to EU membership.

This is important because a the referendum on EU membership is a choice between two futures -; not just an opinion poll on one.

Following months of interviews and research we have set out what the Norwegian model, the Swiss model, relying on World Trade Organisation rules and a UK EU Free Trade Agreement would mean for the UK outside the EU.  We find that each alternative to EU membership moves Britain from being a rule maker to a rule taker and leaves us more dependent than at present on decision taken by others.  Far from enhancing sovereignty and control, this would in fact make Britain weaker.

We conclude by examining the costs and benefits of membership and conclude that leaving would be likely to impose substantial economic costs on the UK.
