In September, Pat McFadden MP ran a competition in his constituency to allow school children from across the borough the opportunity to design his Christmas Card. The competition received over 200 entries from children from various different schools and Pat McFadden MP whittled the entries down to 1 winner and 3 runners up.
On Friday, he hosted a presentation ceremony where he presented the winning child and the runners up with their certificates as well as some House of Commons prizes.
Pat McFadden MP commented, “Every year MPs have to decide which Christmas card they will use; it gets sent to businesses, other MPs, places of worship, charities and constituents so you want it to be creative and a good design. I have run this competition for a number of years now and not only do I always end up with a fantastic, quality design but it also is a real confidence boost for the children taking part, it encourages them to think more about Politics and also to be creative. I’d like to thank all of the people that entered, the winner and runners up but also the local sponsors of the competition. The sponsors are; Zuri Coffee (Wolverhampton), Revolver Records (Wolverhampton) and Angel Springs (Waterlogic, Wolverhampton).”
Baljit Duley, 10, Lanesfield Primary School is the winner of the competition and I have attached a proof of the card. Baljit commented, “I can’t believe that I have won! So many people entered, I’m really happy”.
Susan McSweeney who is the parent of the runner up, Lily-Jordan Violet, added “What a great idea and a real pick-me-up for the children before Christmas”.
Lily-Violet Jordan also said, “I love my prizes, I got loads of House of Commons stationary!”
Deputy Mayor, Cllr Phil Page also helped present the prizes.
