Monday 26th February marks the start of Fairtrade Fortnight nationally.

Wolverhampton’s history of fair trade kicked off in 1991 where we saw the first fair trade shop opening and the selling of fair trade products. In 2004, the City became a fair trade city and in 2016 the Fairtrade Foundation renewed that status. Since then, the Fair trade movement has developed significantly in the city; Wolverhampton has its own (Fairtrade) chocolate bar and most recently in November launched its very own ‘Wolverhampton Coffee’.

Wolverhampton South East MP, Pat McFadden has always been a keen supporter of the fair trade movement in Wolverhampton. On 16th February, he attended Wolverhampton’s Fairtrade AGM where he presented an award to a school in his constituency (Bilston CofE) for their ‘outstanding support’ to the fair trade movement in Wolverhampton.

Pat said, “I have championed Fair trade in Wolverhampton for a long time and to mark Fairtrade Fortnight I will be hosting my annual Fairtrade Coffee Morning on Friday 2nd March 10AM – 12PM at St John’s Methodist Church, Wolverhampton Road East, Wolverhampton, WV4 6AA. The event will celebrate Wolverhampton’s Fairtrade Fortnight 2018 and we will be providing a range of Fairtrade goods such as tea, coffee and biscuits for people to try, everyone is welcome to come along. It is sponsored by local Fairtrade coffee provider ‘Revolver Records’. In addition to this, this year I would like to announce that all of my coffee mornings throughout the year will now only use Fairtrade products.”
