Last month, along with my colleague Emma Reynolds MP, we wrote to the Home Secretary calling for a ban on Zombie in support of the Express & Star’s Campaign.
We have now had a response from the Home Office and it is disappointing that the Home Office seem to be claiming that the job has been done through the 2016 action to ban zombie knives, when clearly there are loopholes that are being exploited. The Express and Star campaign has shown that there are still knives on sale, with only the most cursory checks, that should not be in circulation and which no law abiding citizen has any reason to own. The Government should act to close the loopholes that exist and get these weapons withdrawn from sale.
The situation with knife crime is too serious for anyone to think further action is not needed. Banning the sale of these weapons is not the whole answer of course – much more needs to be done. But it would certainly be a contribution to greater safety on our streets.
Please see a copy of our joint letter and the response from the Home Office.
