Many people donate food to foodbanks or charities at this time of year. Although these kind of items are needed, this year, I have been involved with a cause which is a little different- The Homeless Period Wolverhampton.
The Homeless Period aims to reduce period poverty in the city of Wolverhampton by collecting and distributing feminine hygiene products to women and girls who are experiencing period poverty in the city.
Their aim is ultimately not to exist, however, until that time comes, the goal of The Homeless Period Wolverhampton is simple- they aim to reduce period poverty in Wolverhampton, one pad/tampon at a time.
And on the run up to Christmas, I hosted a collection in my constituency in Bilston. Alongside committee members from the Homeless Period, we went to Morrisons in Bilston collecting much needed products for vulnerable women in the city.
It was great to be able to support the Homeless Period Wolverhampton this month, we spent time in Morrisons collecting essential sanitary protection and other toiletries for women who are on very low incomes or homeless in the city. We often think of a food drive / collection at Christmas, which is important but these items are also essential for a decent life. I commend all the team at the Homeless Period and I will continue to support them on this journey.
