I have had approaches from a large number of constituents in recent days about relatives who are stuck in India. In many cases the relatives are elderly and running out of limited medical supplies. They are British citizens who permanently reside in the UK but who went to India before the UK stay at home advice was issued and before the Indian lockdown was introduced.

My office has informed the Foreign Office about every case that we have, giving the maximum information about passport numbers, addresses in India and so on.

I have also written to the Foreign Secretary urging the Government to charter flights to get people home.

And this morning I raised the issue on a conference call for MPs with the Cabinet Office, explaining the urgency of the situation.

I understand how distressing this is for constituents and am pressing the Government to organise flights to get people home.

I will update constituents when I have more information on this issue.
