Last week, I backed a private member’s bill for (deemed consent) for organ donation.

I supported Geoffrey Robinson MP’s private member’s bill on deemed consent for organ donation. There are six and a half thousand people in the UK waiting for a donated organ and it’s estimated that three people die every day because of a lack of donations. The purpose of the private member’s bill is to move from a system of required consent to a system of permission to opt out. The bill was supported by the Prime Minister and by Jeremy Corbyn (the leader of the opposition) but as it’s a private member’s bill it’s a free vote. I hope that by being in Parliament to support the bill, I can make organ donation that little bit easier for the people desperately waiting and that more lives can be saved through this legislative change.
