Statement on Coronavirus

I want to thank all the NHS staff who are doing the best job they can to look after those affected by the virus.  We have reason to be grateful to them at the best of times and even more reason to be grateful to them now.

Please follow the Government health advice on measures to try to limit the spread of the coronavirus and protect those most vulnerable.  These measures are unprecedented but it is in all our interests to change our behaviour for the coming period and to reduce social contact.  You can obtain further advice from NHS England at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/,  from Wolverhampton City Council on https://www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/coronavirus-advice-and-information and from Dudley Council on https://www.dudley.gov.uk/council-community/emergencies/coronavirus-advice/

This is an economic crisis as well as a health crisis.  There will be hundreds of thousands if not millions of workers affected by Government pleas for the public to refrain from foreign travel and not to go to pubs, restaurants or other social venues, as well as the cancellation of all major sports events.  It is essential that the Government supports people through this very difficult time.  The measures announced in the recent Budget are not enough.  A new Government statement on the economic response is expected later today.

In terms of service to my constituents, obviously I and my team have had to change the way we operate but we will still do everything we can to help and support constituents through this period.  We have cancelled public events like advice surgeries and coffee mornings until further notice but if you need help please email me on patrick.mcfadden.mp@parliament.uk.  Please use email to contact me rather than social media platforms.   I will post further updates on a regular basis.

I know people will be anxious about what is happening and concerned for loved ones, but if we support one another and look out for one another, we will get through this.  There have already been many acts of human kindness and mutual support in recent days and I am sure there will be many more.
